BARAMULLA, June 9, 2026 — Security forces recovered a Chinese-made pistol, two magazines, and 13 live cartridges during a follow-up search operation in Baramulla district today.
The recovery stems from an ongoing investigation into a previous arms seizure involving a foreign-made weapon that was intercepted at a mobile checkpoint earlier this week. The case originated on June 7 when a joint team of Baramulla Police and 52 Rashtriya Rifles intercepted a vehicle at Chandsuma in the Kanispora area.
During that initial operation, security personnel discovered a Turkish-made CANIK TP9SF METE pistol in the possession of a passenger identified as Wakeel Ahmed Theekri, a resident of Kamalkot, Uri. Following his arrest, authorities registered a case under the Arms Act and initiated an investigation.
During questioning, the detained suspect disclosed information that led a joint team to conduct a targeted search at Kalsi Hardu in the Kamalkot area on June 8 in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. This subsequent raid led directly to the recovery of the Chinese weapon and ammunition.
Police officials stated that the latest seizure marks a significant development in the case and points to broader connections within an illegal regional arms network, adding that further investigation is underway.
