Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders demonstrates AI forest fire detection system to Jammu and Kashmir minister
SRINAGAR, June 04, 2026:A delegation from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Union Ministry for Defence, called on Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana to present an Artificial Intelligence-based forest management platform.
The presentation detailed an innovative system named Infrasure, which is designed for early forest fire detection, firefighting, wildlife surveillance, and real-time environmental monitoring. The proposed solution integrates ground-based, aerial, and satellite technologies into a centralized monitoring and command mechanism to drastically improve emergency preparedness and response capabilities across the region.
During the demonstration, the defense PSU team highlighted several critical components of the platform, including specialized aerial firefighting tools, satellite-based forest management resources, and an alarm system specifically built to detect and mitigate human-animal conflicts.
The delegates explained that the technology aims to lower response times, enhance surveillance, and support data-driven decision-making through an integrated command-and-control network. The minister appreciated the presentation, noting that advanced monitoring and early warning systems play a crucial role in preventing ecological losses and supporting sustainable resource management.
Following the review, Javed Ahmed Rana directed the technical team to submit a comprehensive proposal tailored specifically to the unique geographical conditions and terrain requirements of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the updated framework must directly address the Union Territory’s distinct challenges regarding forest fires, wildlife protection, and disaster response.
Senior officers from the Forest Department were also present at the session, and the minister assured that the government will conduct a thorough feasibility assessment of the specialized proposal to evaluate its potential benefits for regional environmental conservation.
