Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Attends Closing Ceremony of Alfa Hockey Inter School Tournament in Srinagar

SRINAGAR June 11,2026 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the closing ceremony of the ALFA HOCKEY Inter-School Tournament 2026 at the Synthetic Hockey Astro Turf, Polo Ground. The prominent sports event brought together young participants from 32 schools spanning various districts, including Kupwara, Bandipora, Kulgam, and Shopian, to showcase their athletic talents.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated the winners and participants, commending the collaborative efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Badal Hockey Club, and Hockey Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the tournament provided a transformative stage for children to realize their athletic potential, noting that substantial investments in sports infrastructure, grassroots competitions, and community engagement have significantly boosted the popularity of hockey across the Union Territory in recent years.

The administration aims to establish Jammu and Kashmir as a cradle for world-class hockey talent by expanding school participation and building a sustainable talent pipeline from the grassroots to the national stage. Existing synthetic turfs in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Poonch are already opening new avenues for players from remote and border areas, while new state-of-the-art synthetic turfs are under construction at Bandhu Rakh and the KK Hakku Stadium in Jammu to further expand advanced training capabilities.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to youth development, the Lieutenant Governor stated that providing resources to young talent remains a constant endeavor to help them contribute toward nation-building. The closing ceremony was attended by Cluster University Srinagar Vice Chancellor Mohammad Mobin, Youth Services and Sports Commissioner Secretary Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, senior administrative and police officials, sports personalities, and representatives from the Badal Hockey Club.
