Kharu, August 12, 2025: In a significant step towards environmental conservation, the “Singay Tsangspo Tsangday Lasgul” (Mission Clean River Indus Campaign) was officially launched today in Kharu Sub Division. The event began at Kharu market chowk, where BDO Kharu emphasized the mission’s importance, followed by a collective pledge to protect the sacred Indus River.
The mega cleanliness drive saw widespread participation from villagers, Numbardars, various heads of departments, and personnel from the Indian Army’s Station Headquarters, 51 RCC, and 111 RCC. The launch program concluded with a motivating speech from Honorable Councillor Sakti constituency Rigzin Tsering, reinforcing the commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment for the region. The cleanliness campaign covered not only the Indus River and its adjoining areas but also the markets and all 15 villages within Kharu Sub Division. This extensive effort is a part of a larger district-wide initiative, with August 12 declared as “Safai Andolan Day” for the conservation of the Indus River across Ladakh.
