Disaster Management Briefing Held for Upcoming UT-Level Mock Drill Exercise in Leh

Leh, August 12:A Disaster Management Orientation and Coordination Conference for the upcoming UT-Level Mock Drill Exercise was held today at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Leh, in virtual mode.Chaired by Maj. Gen. Sudhir Bahl (Retd.), the session virtually aimed to enhance disaster preparedness and address shortcomings from previous operations. The presentation covered the Incident Response System (IRS), allocation of nodal officers, early warning mechanisms, and coordinated planning for disaster and rescue operations.Maj. Gen. Bahl emphasised the need for awareness drives, inter-departmental coordination, and regular training in line with NDM guidelines. He also urged close collaboration with the Army, ITBP, and Air Force for operational support, and explained differences in urban and rural response execution.

The broad programme for the UT-Level Mock Drill includes: • 12–18 August: Preparation & Coordination – Awareness drives, resource mapping, communication planning, training, and rehearsals. • 19 August: Tabletop Exercise (TTEx) – SDMA updates, civil defence preparedness, and scenario-based response presentations by districts and departments. • 20 August: Preparation for Mock Exercise – Simulation site setup, activation of EOCs, IRTs, IRS facilities (e.g., relief camps), and communication checks. • 21–22 August: Day Mock Exercise (ME) – Response and ground visits (09:00–13:00 hrs), night mock exercise (18:30–22:00 hrs). • 22 August: Debriefing at 10:00 hrs.In this meeting cum briefing session Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Ghulam Mohd, Additional Superintendent of Police, Leh, were present and many other officials such as CISF, Leh, 13 NDRF, DIG ITBP, U-Force 14 Corps joined virtually.The exercises will focus on inter-agency coordination, casualty management in hospitals, and school evacuation drills to ensure preparedness for any emergency.
