Jammu Municipal Corporation Revitalizes Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront with Community Yoga Drive Ahead of Independence Day
JAMMU, AUGUST 09, 2026 — As part of a broader push to transform public spaces into hubs for health and community bonding, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in partnership with the Vishwa Yoga Sansthan, hosted a special open-air yoga gathering along the banks of the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront. The early-morning event drew a large gathering of local residents, fitness enthusiasts, and city administrators, signaling a fresh effort to integrate daily physical wellness with civic life as the city gears up for upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Under the guidance of Vishwa Yoga Sansthan Chairman Acharya Dr. Karan, participants were led through a comprehensive routine featuring foundational asanas, breathing techniques (pranayama), and guided meditation against the serene backdrop of the riverfront. Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar joined the assembly as chief guest, alongside JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, Joint Commissioner (Revenue and Enforcement) Kulbhushan Khajuria, Joint Commissioner (Administration) Rajiv Khajuria, and Deputy Commissioner (North, JMC) Sanjay Badayal. Addressing those present, officials underscored that maintaining daily physical activity is essential not just for physical fitness, but for fostering emotional resilience and long-term mental clarity.
The wellness drive also marks a strategic pivot for urban management along the riverfront. With operational duties surrounding the annual Amarnath Ji Yatra coming to a close, local authorities are redirecting focus toward establishing the Tawi Riverfront as a year-round destination for leisure, fitness, and family outings. Speaking on the roadmap ahead, Dr. Devansh Yadav emphasized that the civic body is actively planning a slate of recreational and health-focused programs to keep the public space lively and accessible, particularly during morning and evening hours. By blending daily wellness initiatives with active public participation, civic leaders aim to turn the scenic riverbank into a vibrant cornerstone of healthy living for the entire region.
