Jammu and Kashmir Weather Forecast Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Alert Issued

SRINAGAR, AUG 9 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather update for Jammu and Kashmir predicting widespread rain, thundershowers, and heavy precipitation across the region over the coming days.From August 9 to August 11, most places in the union territory are likely to experience spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

A few districts in the Jammu division are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while select districts in the Kashmir division will likely see brief, intense spells. The peak intensity of this weather system is anticipated on August 11, with heavy to very heavy rain expected at one or two districts on the night of August 11.

Following the peak activity, the weather conditions will remain unsettled. Between August 12 and August 16, light rain and thundershowers are possible at many locations, along with brief intense showers in isolated pockets.

Another fresh spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is forecast from August 17 to August 19, which could bring further brief heavy downpours to several districts.Authorities have issued a weather advisory warning that torrential rainfall and brief heavy showers could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable and hilly areas. Residents in low-lying zones are also advised to stay alert due to the risk of temporary waterlogging.
