Amarnath Yatra 2026 Temporarily Suspended From August 9 Due To Track Repair Works And Severe Weather Forecast
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08, 2026 — The ongoing 57-day annual Amarnath Yatra, which commenced on July 3, 2026, will remain suspended from both the Chandanwari route in Anantnag district and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district starting August 9, 2026. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, announced that recent heavy rainfall necessitated crucial repair and maintenance work along vulnerable stretches of the pilgrimage tracks, which is currently being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).In addition to the required infrastructure restoration, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast adverse weather conditions across the region over the coming days, prompting authorities to pause the pilgrimage to ensure public safety.
More than 4.8 lakh devotees have successfully undertaken the pilgrimage and performed darshan at the Holy Cave Shrine since the start of the 2026 season.Officials confirmed that despite the temporary track suspension, the sacred Chadi Mubarak procession will proceed as scheduled via the traditional Pahalgam route to mark the formal culmination of the 2026 pilgrimage on August 28, 2026. Garg urged all devotees and visitors to adhere strictly to safety advisories and official updates issued by competent authorities to ensure a smooth and secure management of the remaining events.
