Sakeena Itoo, Nasir Aslam Wani Review Development and Academic Growth of Kashmir University’s Kupwara Campus
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 08, 2026 — In a major push to boost higher education in north Kashmir, Minister for Education, Health & Medical Education, and Social Welfare Sakeena Itoo, along with Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, chaired a high-level review meeting today to evaluate the academic progress and infrastructural development of Kashmir University’s satellite campus at Wayan, Kupwara. Held through a hybrid format of in-person and video conferencing, the meeting brought together key administrative and academic leaders, including Kashmir University Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, Higher Education Commissioner Secretary Ram Niwas Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, the Registrar of Kashmir University, and senior officials from the district administration and education department.
During the session, Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan presented a comprehensive progress report outlining ongoing academic activities and infrastructure projects at the Wayan site. Minister Sakeena Itoo highlighted the importance of transforming the campus into a fully equipped, modern educational hub catering to the growing demands of local students. She instructed stakeholder departments to remove all operational bottlenecks delaying expansion, urged seamless inter-departmental coordination, and directed Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to work closely with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kupwara to resolve pending land allotment issues immediately. To ensure accountability, the Minister also asked the Vice Chancellor to conduct an on-site visit to inspect the ongoing construction firsthand.
Echoing the commitment to accessible education, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani emphasized that strengthening the Wayan campus is crucial for providing employment-oriented and professional learning opportunities tailored to the region’s needs. He urged all administrative bodies to expedite pending work and align institutional offerings with modern industry requirements, ensuring students in Kupwara and adjoining rural areas gain quality higher education closer to home.
