Kashmir School Summer Vacation Extended Till July 22, 2026, Due to Harsh Weather Conditions

SRINAGAR, JULY 18, 2026: In response to a continuing intense heatwave followed by an adverse meteorological forecast, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a three-day extension of the ongoing summer break for educational institutions. Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed the directive via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that all government and recognized private schools operating within the Kashmir Division, as well as the winter zones of the Jammu Division, will now remain closed up to July 22, 2026 (Wednesday).

The region has been experiencing unusually high temperatures alongside warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding upcoming heavy rainfall and potential localized flash floods, prompting immediate administrative intervention. Authorities emphasized that the extension is a vital precautionary measure designed to safeguard the health, safety, and general well-being of students, teachers, and institutional staff from extreme atmospheric shifts.

Under the revised schedule, regular academic classes across the affected divisions are slated to resume on July 23, 2026, though school managements and parents have been advised to keep a close watch on further official updates should weather dynamics shift.
