Delhi Police Bust Inter-State Luxury Car Theft Syndicate; 12 Vehicles Recovered, 2 Arrested
NEW DELHI — JULY 12, 2026 — The Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell (AEKC) of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has dismantled a highly sophisticated inter-state luxury car theft network, arresting two major receivers operating out of Punjab and Rajasthan. The multi-state operation led to the recovery of 12 high-end luxury vehicles—including Toyota Fortuners, Innovas, and Hyundai Cretas—all fitted with forged registration certificates and fake license plates.
The breakthrough came under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and Assistant Commissioner of Police Pankaj Arora, alongside inspectors Daleep Kumar and Priyanka. Following a spike in midnight luxury vehicle thefts across Delhi, a specialized task force analyzed CCTV footage and crime patterns, revealing an organized ring capable of bypassing car security systems within minutes. Acting on a tip-off on June 7, 2026, the team apprehended Gurwinder Singh Bainka, 37, from an MCD parking lot in East Delhi. He was found in possession of a stolen Hyundai Creta carrying fake Himachal Pradesh license plates.
During interrogation, Bainka confessed to operating as a primary receiver, transporting stolen cars to the border districts of Punjab, such as Amritsar and Tarntaran, to sell them with forged documents. He implicated Dashrath Bishnoi, 36, a resident of Bikaner, Rajasthan, as his supplier. Following this lead, Delhi Police tracked and arrested Bishnoi at a toll plaza in Osian, Jodhpur. The syndicate’s modus operandi involved purchasing stolen vehicles for a mere ₹4–5 lakhs, tampering with their engine and chassis numbers, fabricating registration certificates, and selling them to unsuspecting buyers as genuine property.
Police records reveal that both accused have extensive criminal ties. Bainka, an arts graduate who previously ran an old-car dealership, is a declared proclaimed offender wanted in multiple auto-theft cases. Bishnoi, active in vehicle crime since 2021, managed to evade arrest for years while leveraging his network across Rajasthan. The 12 recovered vehicles have been linked back to multiple electronic First Information Reports (e-FIRs) filed across Delhi and Gurugram. Both men remain in judicial custody while investigators track down the remaining members of the network and work to recover more stolen vehicles.
