Pahalgam Cloudburst Updates: Flash Floods Inundate Hotels, Trigger Evacuations
PAHALGAM JULY 12 : A massive cloudburst in the dense forest areas of Awoora and Dehwathu near Pahalgam triggered severe flash floods on Saturday evening, causing water levels to spike rapidly and inundating several local properties.
The sudden deluge forced floodwaters into nearby residential sectors and commercial establishments, submerging at least six hotels and causing structural damage, including collapsed walls, to multiple houses. In response to the rising waters, emergency teams launched immediate rescue operations, safely evacuating stranded tourists to secure locations and cutting off electricity across heavily affected zones as a safety precaution.
While authorities confirmed that water levels in the Sheshnag and Lidder Nallah have surged significantly, they currently remain below the danger mark. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and assessing the damage to determine if the flash floods will impact the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
