Madhavpur Krishna-Rukmini Dham Transformation: ₹43.72 Crore Phase 2 Development Begins

GANDHINAGAR, July 8 — In a major boost to spiritual tourism, the Gujarat government has launched the second phase of the transformation of the historic Madhavpur Krishna-Rukmini pilgrimage site in Porbandar district. Driven by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s administration and aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of blending heritage with development, the mega-redevelopment project is valued at ₹43.72 crore. This initiative aims to elevate the cultural landmark onto the global tourism map, following the successful completion of the first phase, which included the inauguration of the Rukmini Mataji Temple, the sacred Brahma Kund, and the main entrance gate.

The ambitious project, managed by the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board, is slated for completion within the next two years. At the heart of this phase is the extensive renovation of the historic Madhavrayji Temple, which will undergo a majestic restoration worth ₹20.25 crore, combining spiritual sanctity with ancient architectural excellence. To enhance the visitor experience, a vibrant 200-meter-long beach front featuring modern food courts, high-tech restrooms, and seating areas will be developed along the coastline.

In addition to preserving heritage, the project prioritizes modern tourist infrastructure and accessibility. A spacious outer plaza and dedicated parking zone will be constructed at a cost of ₹5.31 crore, while the approach road from the turtle breeding center to the temple will be widened to 9 meters to ensure smooth traffic flow. To appeal to younger generations and modern travelers, ₹3.45 crore has been allocated for aesthetic landscaping, beautiful fountains, artistic sculptures, and dedicated selfie points. Furthermore, the pilgrimage site will incorporate smart, invisible utility infrastructure, including underground electrical and plumbing lines, alongside an eco-friendly smart irrigation system to sustain the venue’s lush greenery.
