Unidentified Body and Weapons Recovered at Shopian Encounter Site in Kashmir

SHOPIAN, July 8 — Security forces recovered an unidentified body and a cache of weapons near an active encounter site in the Chanapora area of Shopian district on Wednesday.

A senior police officer confirmed that fresh gunshots were heard close to the encounter location just before the recovery was made, adding that the identity of the deceased is currently being verified as modern surveillance equipment spotted arms and ammunition lying nearby.

The anti-terrorist operation began four days ago when a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the locality.

Security forces have maintained a tight cordon around the search zone to ensure the area is clear, and further details regarding the identity of the body and the recovered weaponry are awaited as the operation continues.
