Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 Sees Record Single Day Batch of Pilgrims Leave Jammu

JAMMU, July 8 — The annual Shri Amarnath pilgrimage witnessed its largest single-day departure today as a record 9,837 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for Kashmir.
The devotees departed in a massive convoy of 361 vehicles bound for both the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal track under strict security arrangements.Official reports indicate that 5,337 pilgrims in 188 vehicles chose the longer Pahalgam route, while 4,500 devotees in 173 vehicles opted for Baltal.
The large group consisted of 6,684 men, 2,730 women, 21 children, 320 sadhus, 80 sadhvis, and two transgender individuals, all eager to begin their journey to the holy cave shrine.
The base camp in Jammu experienced a massive rush from the early hours of the morning as people from all over the country gathered to register and join the convoy.
To ensure smooth transit and safety, authorities have deployed a multi-layered security grid alongside extensive logistical support involving the local administration, police, central forces, and medical teams.
The annual pilgrimage, which started on July 3, is scheduled to run for 57 days and will conclude on August 28 to coincide with Raksha Bandhan.
