Food safety inspection conducted at Nunwan Base Camp for Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims
ANANTNAG, July 5, 2026 :- The Food Safety Department of Anantnag conducted a comprehensive inspection of Langars at the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam to ensure the availability of safe, hygienic, and wholesome food for pilgrims participating in the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Carried out under the directions of the Commissioner of the Food and Drugs Administration for Jammu and Kashmir, the inspection team thoroughly evaluated food preparation areas, hygiene and sanitation practices, storage facilities, the quality and source of raw materials, the availability of potable drinking water, and the personal hygiene of food handlers.
During the enforcement drive, officials distributed essential protective gear including face masks, head covers, and gloves to the workers, advising them to use this equipment during food preparation and service to prevent any contamination. The team also sensitized the Langar management committees and food handlers regarding the necessity of maintaining strict safety standards throughout the annual pilgrimage.
To enhance monitoring measures, the department deployed two Mobile Food Testing Vans across the Anantnag district to perform on-the-spot testing of food items served to the pilgrims. Food Safety Department officials stated that regular inspections and surveillance will continue for the entire duration of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, while appealing to all organizers and handlers to maintain high sanitation levels for a successful pilgrimage.
