PM Package Employees: Dr Arvind Karwani Inspects Transit Accommodation Construction Across Kashmir
SRINAGAR, JUNE 09: Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrant) Dr. Arvind Karwani, along with Assistant Commissioner Relief Kailash Devi, has successfully concluded a comprehensive week-long inspection tour of transit accommodation sites currently under construction for Prime Minister (PM) Package employees across North, Central, and South Kashmir. Accompanied by site engineers and senior district administration officials, Dr. Karwani closely reviewed the infrastructure progress and issued strict directives to expedite the remaining work. He strongly emphasized the critical need to achieve all structural targets within a strict, time-bound framework, placing special urgency on the early completion of essential allied works. This includes finalizing internal roads, boundary walls, and primary utilities to ensure that the possession of these allotted quarters can be handed over to the employees as quickly as possible, strictly adhering to established government criteria and approved Detailed Project Reports (DPR).
During the extensive tour, the visiting delegation actively engaged with PM Package employees stationed across Baramulla, Srinagar, Budgam, Kulgam, and Anantnag districts to listen to their grievances firsthand. The officials gave a patient hearing to several pressing demands raised by the residents, which primarily focused on the expedited allotment of quarters alongside the provision of robust basic amenities, including uninterrupted water and power supply, efficient sanitation, and dedicated educational and recreational spaces for their children. Under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme (PMDP), a massive housing initiative is underway to build 6,000 transit quarters across 20 distinct locations in the Kashmir Valley. To date, approximately 4,700 flats have already been successfully constructed, while vital ancillary infrastructure—including advanced drainage systems, community halls, elevators, and boundary walls—is currently moving forward in full swing. Concluding the interaction on a reassuring note, Dr. Karwani firmly assured the employees that rigorous, round-the-clock efforts are being made to guarantee that flat possessions are officially handed over at most locations by as early as next month.
