Jammu and Kashmir Heatwave: Health Department Issues Public Advisory as Temperatures Soar

SRINAGAR, JUNE 07,2026— In response to the scorching heatwave and rapidly rising temperatures across the region, the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu and Kashmir, issued a comprehensive public health advisory on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Urging citizens to adopt the core mantra of “Stay Cool, Stay Hydrated, Stay Safe,” health officials emphasized the critical need for proactive measures to prevent heat exhaustion and life-threatening heat strokes.

The advisory strongly counsels the general public to drink water frequently throughout the day, even in the absence of thirst, and to incorporate water-rich seasonal fruits and vegetables into their daily diet. To minimize direct exposure to the sun, citizens are advised to wear loose-fitting, light-colored cotton clothing, keep their heads covered, and use umbrellas when stepping outdoors. Furthermore, the department recommends staying updated with regular weather forecasts via radio, television, or newspapers, and strictly advises avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Residents are also urged to keep their homes cool and well-ventilated by using fans or coolers and keeping windows and curtains closed during the hottest parts of the day.
