Indian Army Establishes Monpa Heritage Hut to Preserve Cultural Traditions in Arunachal Pradesh

WEST KAMENG, April 24, 2026 – The Blazing Sword Division of the Gajraj Corps, under the umbrella of Operation Sadbhavana, has established a Heritage Hut in Thembang village to celebrate the unique architecture and rich cultural traditions of the Monpa community.

Located in a region recognized as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage site, the new facility was inaugurated in the presence of various civil dignitaries. This initiative aims to preserve the local heritage while strengthening the bond between the military and the indigenous population of Arunachal Pradesh.

The inauguration coincided with the second edition of the Thembang Heritage Festival, a vibrant event showcasing the area’s history. To encourage local participation and outreach, the Indian Army organized interactive stalls titled Know Your Army and How to Join the Indian Army.

These exhibits were designed to provide the local youth with insights into military life and career opportunities, fostering a deeper sense of connection and national pride within the community.
