UDHAMPUR, Feb 9, 2026 – In a significant move against the narcotics trade, the Udhampur Police successfully intercepted an inter-district drug smuggling attempt at Chenani, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of a substantial quantity of heroin.
The operation unfolded during a routine naka checking exercise at the motor shed in Chenani. A police team signaled a Baleno car (registration number JK03P-7083) traveling from Jammu toward Srinagar to stop for inspection. Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, officers discovered a total of 54.99 grams of heroin.
The suspects have been identified as Gulzar Khan, son of Gulzar Ahmed Khan, a resident of Devipora, Anantnag, and Abid Hussain Peer, son of Peer Siraj U Din, a resident of Kokernag, Anantnag. Police officials stated that 13.10 grams were found with the driver, Gulzar Khan, while the remaining 41.89 grams were recovered from Abid Hussain Peer.When questioned on-site, the duo was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the illegal substances.
Following the recovery, Case FIR No. 22/2026 was registered at Police Station Chenani under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act. A formal investigation is currently underway to trace the broader links of this drug module.
