JAMMU, Jan 27, 2026 — The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), operating under Project Sampark, successfully executed a daring high-altitude rescue and road restoration mission at the 10,500-foot-high Chatergala Pass in Jammu and Kashmir.
Following a massive snowstorm on January 23, 2026, which blocked the vital Bhaderwah-Chatergala axis, the 118 Road Construction Company (RCC) of the 35 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) launched a relentless 40-hour snow-clearing operation. Battling extreme weather and 5 to 6 feet of snow accumulation over a 38-km stretch, BRO personnel worked tirelessly from the morning of January 24 until the evening of January 25 to reopen the route.
The strategic operation ensured the safe evacuation of 20 stranded civilians and 40 troops from the 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), along with their essential weapons and stores.
Completed by the early hours of January 26, the mission reported zero casualties, highlighting the seamless coordination between the BRO and the Indian Army.
This successful intervention not only restored critical communication links in the inhospitable terrain but also reaffirmed the BRO’s commitment to its motto, ‘Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam’ (Everything is achievable through hard work), ensuring operational readiness and humanitarian aid in the nation’s most challenging regions.
