CM Omar Abdullah Unveils 2026 Handicrafts and Handloom Calendar Honoring Kashmiri Artisans

SRINAGAR, Jan 11: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially launched the Handicrafts and Handloom Department’s 2026 Calendar today, a publication designed as a visual tribute to the enduring craft traditions of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Chief Minister described the calendar as an “ode to the artisans who weave, carve, and color Kashmir’s soul,” emphasizing that these craftsmen are the living ambassadors of the Valley’s ancient legacy.

He highlighted how their dedication transforms raw materials into masterpieces that reflect the spirit and cultural resilience of the region. The 2026 edition showcases an exquisite array of traditional arts, including Namda, Kani shawl weaving, Papier-mâché, wood carving, Sozni embroidery, and copperware, with each month illustrating skills passed down through generations.

The event was attended by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Mussarat Islam, and other senior officials, all of whom joined the Chief Minister in celebrating the artisans as the true custodians of Kashmir’s heritage.
