Udhampur Public Delegation Meets Jal Shakti Minister Over Water Scarcity

JAMMU, January 03,2026 : A public delegation representing various villages in the Udhampur district, including Makyani Chanoonta, Dhannu, and Majalta, met with Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, to address critical drinking water shortages. Led by Abdul Ghani Teli, Chairman of the JKNC OBC Cell, the group highlighted persistent issues such as irregular water supply, decaying infrastructure, and the immediate need to replace damaged pipelines.

The representatives emphasized that augmenting current water sources and developing new Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are essential steps to resolve the long-standing infrastructure challenges in their respective regions.During the session, which was attended by senior engineers and department officials, Minister Javed Ahmed Rana issued time-bound mandates to the Superintending Engineer of Jal Shakti to conduct personal site visits to all affected habitations.

He specifically ordered the immediate preparation of DPRs for permanent restoration in areas where natural calamities or floods have compromised the existing systems.

To bridge the gap during these repairs, the Minister instructed the department to implement temporary measures to ensure residents have an uninterrupted water supply.

Furthermore, the Minister directed the swift creation of a comprehensive water supply scheme specifically for Dhannu Thathi to provide a sustainable, long-term solution for the local community.

Reaffirming the Omar Abdullah government’s focus on equitable and reliable utility access, Rana assured the delegation that their grievances would be treated as a priority and resolved through a structured, sustainable framework.
