Minister Satish Sharma Conducts Surprise Inspection of FCI Godowns to Ensure Quality Food Grain Distribution
JAMMU, JANUARY 02, 2026 — Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, and Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, conducted a surprise inspection of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns in Jammu today.
The visit was aimed at personally evaluating the storage conditions, stock quality, and the overall distribution mechanism of food grains destined for the Public Distribution System (PDS). During the inspection of various storage sheds, the Minister emphasized the need for strict segregation of stocks and issued a stern directive that only high-quality, nutrition-rich grains should be released for public consumption.
Accompanied by senior officials from the FCI and the Department of FCS&CA, Satish Sharma meticulously examined procurement registers and distribution records to ensure transparency in the supply chain. He also visited the on-site quality testing laboratory to review the protocols used for analyzing both fresh and stored samples.
Stressing the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward substandard supplies, the Minister noted that the administration under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is deeply committed to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring robust food security for every household in the region.
Reiterating the government’s priority of providing safe and nutritious food, the Minister warned that any laxity in storage or handling would face immediate administrative action. He instructed officials to fortify existing monitoring mechanisms and implement a schedule of regular, mandatory inspections to maintain the integrity of food grains from the point of procurement to final distribution.
This proactive oversight is part of a broader effort to modernize the PDS and ensure that every citizen receives their entitled rations in the best possible condition.
