Srinagar Swadeshi Mela: Ashok Koul Highlights Local Economic Growth and PM Modi’s Self-Reliance Vision

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 21, 2025: Reaffirming the BJP’s dedication to empowering indigenous industries, J&K BJP General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul led the closing ceremony of a successful two-day Swadeshi Mela at Polo View, Srinagar.

The event, held on December 20 and 21, coincided with International Pheran Day, with participants proudly showcasing traditional Kashmiri attire alongside a vast array of local products including Pashmina, carpets, silver jewelry, and traditional cuisine.

Accompanied by General Secretary Anwar Khan, Koul described the mela as a vital movement for rebuilding the local economy of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that by promoting regional craftsmanship and entrepreneurship, the initiative directly supports the Dignity of Livelihood and fulfills Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat at the grassroots level.During the ceremony, Koul highlighted that the mela served as a vibrant platform for artisans, farmers, and small entrepreneurs to connect with the public, thereby fostering financial self-reliance and inclusive growth.

He noted that a robust local economy is the bedrock of a strong nation and that Jammu and Kashmir possesses the immense potential to lead this economic transformation. Anwar Khan added that the overwhelming public response to the exhibition reflects a significant shift in consumer awareness toward supporting “Vocal for Local” initiatives.

By celebrating cultural heritage through folk music and traditional arts, the Swadeshi Mela not only boosted trade but also instilled a sense of pride in Kashmiri traditions, marking a milestone in the journey toward a self-reliant and economically vibrant Union Territory.
