Tamil Nadu government increases dearness allowance for employees and teachers
CHENNAI, May 14, 2026Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced a hike in dearness allowance for state government employees and teachers from 58 percent to 60 percent.
This increase is effective from January 1, 2026. The decision was made to support the welfare of those who play a vital role in implementing various government schemes and public welfare initiatives across the state.
The move follows a similar increase for central government employees. After careful consideration, the Chief Minister ordered the two percent rise to ensure state workers receive comparable benefits.
This adjustment is expected to benefit approximately 16 lakh individuals, including government servants, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners.
This welfare measure will result in an additional annual expenditure of 1,230 crore rupees for the state government.
Despite the significant cost, the administration has committed to allocating the necessary funds to prioritize the financial well-being of its workforce and retirees.
