Samba Police bust criminal gang and arrest key kingpin in Chandigarh shooting case

SAMBA, June 18, 2026 :- In a significant breakthrough, Samba Police busted a gang of hardcore criminals active across Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. The group, operating under the command of incarcerated gangster Rohit Kumar, also known as Makhan, was actively indulging in extortion in both states.

The gang’s role had recently surfaced in a shooting incident in Chandigarh, where a pharmacy worker was killed inside a shop in broad daylight. One of the main accused in the case, Amit Kumar, also known as Sharabi, is among the arrested gang members.

The ring leader, Makhan, was acting in association with various Punjab-based gangsters and was found to be instrumental in organizing this network for various criminal activities.The arrested gang members have been identified as the main kingpin Amit Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Manik Sanhotra, Vivek Mehra, Sunny Mehra, and Aryan Sharma. Among them, Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma, who were arrested earlier, have already been handed over to the Chandigarh Police for further investigation.

Following disclosures made by the apprehended individuals, law enforcement officials seized an assortment of weapons, ammunition, and cash, which included one AK-47 magazine, thirty-eight AK-47 rounds, ten pistol rounds, two country-made pistols, one country-made handgun, one sharp-edged weapon, and eighteen thousand rupees in cash.

Continuous efforts are underway by the police to identify other key associates of the network to ensure long-term public safety in the region.
