Kathua Police refutes misleading social media reports about missing women in Billawar
KATHUA, June 1 — The Kathua Police has strongly refuted misleading claims circulating on various social media platforms regarding the alleged disappearance of a large number of women and girls from Kathua district, particularly from the Billawar area.
Providing official data to counter the rumors, the police clarified that a total of 70 missing person cases were reported during the year 2025, out of which 63 individuals were successfully traced.
Furthermore, in the year 2026 so far, 34 missing person cases have been reported, and 26 of those individuals have already been traced. Investigations revealed that most of the traced women and girls had left their homes voluntarily of their own free will for marriage or other personal reasons.
According to the police administration, once these women and girls are located, their statements are recorded before a competent authority, and further legal action is taken strictly in accordance with the law, with many individuals subsequently being reunited with their families or guardians.
Every missing person report received at local police stations is promptly registered and investigated following the prescribed legal procedure.
