JKNC Delegation Meets Sakina Itoo to Fast Track Pancheri College Construction

JAMMU, April 30, 2026—A high-level delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, headed by Udhampur District President Sunil Verma, met with Minister for Health, Medical Education, and Higher Education Sakina Itoo to advocate for the immediate establishment of a college in Block Pancheri.

During the meeting, Verma highlighted that since the Omar Abdullah administration took office, the party has been actively engaging with local communities across every block and panchayat in Udhampur to address long-standing developmental gaps.

The current push follows a public meeting in Pancheri where residents expressed urgent concerns regarding the future of the local college. The site for the institution was previously finalized at Kainthgali, a central location situated between Panchari and Moungri.

However, Verma noted that certain elements are attempting to shift the college elsewhere, an action that locals believe would undermine the progress of the region.

The delegation presented a comprehensive memorandum to the Minister, supported by documentation and references to a court order mandating that the original site selection be honored.

Verma emphasized that the demand is rooted in public interest and must be protected from administrative or political interference.

Sakina Itoo, after reviewing the memorandum and the supporting evidence, assured the delegation that the government would prioritize the genuine demands of the people. She reiterated that the current administration is committed to a people-centric approach and will take necessary steps to ensure the welfare of the student community in Udhampur.

Additional Spokesperson Akash Verma added that under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, providing equitable access to education is a cornerstone of the party’s agenda.

The meeting, which also included Senior Vice President Javed Iqbal and Block Secretary Jitender Prasher, concluded with an assurance from the government that prompt action would be taken to resolve the issue.
