India and Italy Exchange Military Cooperation Plan to Strengthen Defense Ties

NEW DELHI, April 30, 2026:-Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hosted Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto in Delhi today for extensive bilateral talks aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The leaders engaged in detailed discussions regarding a wide array of regional and global issues, with a specific focus on the evolving security situation in West Asia.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and fostering diplomatic dialogue to address ongoing international challenges.A key highlight of the meeting was the exploration of new avenues for defense industrial cooperation.

The ministers discussed how to align India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative with Italy’s defense cooperation programs to create mutually beneficial opportunities for joint production and technology exchange.

This collaboration is expected to enhance the manufacturing capabilities of both countries and streamline the development of modern defense platforms, reinforcing their shared commitment to industrial self-reliance.

To formalize these efforts, the two nations exchanged a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for the 2026-27 period. This roadmap outlines a series of military engagements, joint exercises, and strategic dialogues between the armed forces of India and Italy.

The exchange of this plan marks a significant step forward in operationalizing the defense partnership and ensuring consistent coordination on security matters.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their dedication to a robust and long-term military relationship.
