J&K Weather Update: Met Centre Forecasts Rain, Hailstorm, and Gusty Winds Across Jammu and Kashmir; Advisory Issued
SRINAGAR 01 June 2026 — The Meteorological (MeT) Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather update for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a significant shift from dry conditions to widespread rain, thunder, and potential hailstorms over the coming days.
According to the latest forecast, residents can expect generally dry weather with only localized late-afternoon rain or thundershowers through June 2nd. However, a major weather disruption is scheduled to begin on June 3rd, bringing generally cloudy skies, gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 KMPH, and scattered downpours to many parts of the region.
The weather is expected to intensify further between June 4th and 5th, with most places across J&K likely to experience multiple spells of rain, intense thundershowers, hailstorms, and strong, gusty winds. While the system will begin to weaken by June 6th, leaving behind brief showers and cloudy skies in a few areas, a complete transition to hot and dry summer weather is anticipated from June 7th through June 9th.
In light of these volatile conditions, authorities have issued a severe weather advisory for the period of June 3rd to June 6th, warning of potential thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and powerful winds gusting up to 60 KMPH at scattered locations.
Tourists and residents are strongly advised to remain indoors during active thunderstorms and to immediately suspend all water-based activities, including boating and iconic Shikara rides, to ensure public safety.
