NIA Arrests Key Conspirator in Malappuram Illegal Explosives Case
NEW DELHI, August 09, 2026 — The National Investigation Agency arrested Haris TA, identified as a key conspirator involved in the illegal procurement of a massive explosives consignment in Malappuram, Kerala. He was taken into custody from Manjeri in Malappuram district, bringing the total number of arrests made in connection with the ongoing probe to ten.
The case stems from an incident on February 7, 2026, when Kerala Police intercepted a lorry bearing registration number KL 10 BF 8395 parked on Chemmad-Thalappara Road, recovering 89,600 explosive sticks and 10,500 non-electric shock tubes transported without valid permits.
After taking over the investigation, the agency conducted searches across 19 locations in three states to uncover the broader network. The latest arrest follows the detention of three suspects from Vijayapura, Karnataka, as authorities continue investigating the illegal movement and procurement of the explosives.
