Security Hardened Across Anantnag and Kulgam as Kashmir Escalates Vigilance Ahead of Independence Day

ANANTNAG/KULGAM, August 06, 2026 — Security forces across South Kashmir have been placed on high alert, significantly intensifying security arrangements and grid surveillance across the twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The heightened security measures come as a direct response to recent terror attacks in the region, prompting local law enforcement, military, and anti-terror units to bolster their operational readiness. Police personnel, supported by specialized units, have established an extensive network of mobile and static checkpoints (nakas) across key transit routes, enabling round-the-clock intensive vehicle inspections, frisking, and identity verification to preemptively neutralize potential security threats and counter-insurgency attempts.

As part of the multi-layered security umbrella, targeted counter-terror operations and random vehicle checks are actively being executed in high-priority zones. In Kulgam district, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Qaimoh Police Station, accompanied by the Officer Commanding (OC) of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Qaimoh, led joint operational checking squads across strategic locations in Qaimoh and along vital stretches of the National Highway. Area domination exercises, night patrolling, and enhanced electronic surveillance have also been scaled up around sensitive installations, government establishments, and main arterial roads linking South Kashmir to the rest of the Union Territory to ensure a completely safe environment during the upcoming national celebrations.
