GCW Udhampur Hosts Independence Day Quiz Competition on National Heroes and Freedom
UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 06, 2026 — As part of the ongoing Independence Day 2026 celebrations, the Literary Club of the Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur, organized an engaging quiz competition centered around the theme “Celebrating our National Heroes and the Essence of Freedom”. The event was held in alignment with directives from the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, alongside official guidelines issued by the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, to foster patriotic spirit and civic awareness among students.
Organized by Dr. Geetanjli Rajput, Convener of the Literary Club, under the patronage of the college Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania, the initiative aimed to highlight the significance of India’s freedom movement and deepen historical understanding. The competition witnessed energetic participation from the student body, featuring six registered teams of three members each competing across multiple objective rounds designed to challenge their knowledge regarding India’s rich history and the sacrifices of revolutionary freedom fighters.
The event was attended by Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania, who commended the Literary Club for organizing a meaningful and intellectually stimulating program. In her address, Dr. Pathania urged the students to stay connected to their cultural and historical roots while striving collectively toward nation-building and national progress. The overall coordination of the event was managed by Prof. Simran Khajuria and Prof. Safina Chowdhary.
To maintain evaluation standards, a panel of judges comprising Dr. Monika Gupta, Dr. Rewa Lakhnotra, and Prof. Kusha Sharma assessed the contestants. Following an intense series of rounds, Team A—consisting of Prachi Gupta, Aiman Lone, and Naseem Akhter—secured first place. Team D, comprising Apoorva, Nritika, and Sunali Devi, claimed the first runner-up position, while Team E, represented by Tanvi Jasrotia, Shipali Sharma, and Taniya Sharma, finished as second runner-up. The event concluded with expressions of appreciation for the participants, organizers, and judges, alongside event coverage managed by Mr. Kuldeep Singh.
