Samba Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers Near AIIMS Vijaypur; 10 Grams Heroin Recovered Under NDPS Act

SAMBA, AUGUST 06, 2026: In an ongoing and resolute crackdown against illicit narcotics trafficking across the region, Samba Police successfully apprehended two suspected drug peddlers near AIIMS Vijaypur and confiscated approximately 10 grams of a heroin-like substance from their possession. The operation was carried out by an active police team stationed within the jurisdiction of Vijaypur Police Station as part of heightened security and anti-narcotics checking measures.

The apprehension took place during routine surprise checking (naka) setup near the AIIMS Vijaypur area. Officers on duty spotted two pedestrians moving through the vicinity under suspicious circumstances. Upon intercepting the individuals and conducting a thorough physical search, law enforcement officers recovered approximately 10 grams of a fine heroin-like contraband item hidden on their person.

The two arrested suspects have been identified as Aaqib Ali, son of Ali Mohd Wani, a resident of Alamdar Colony Batpora located in Chadoora tehsil of Budgam district, and Zubair Ahmed Baba, son of Mukhtar Ahmed Baba, hailing from Humhama in Budgam district. Following the recovery of the illegal substance, both individuals were taken into custody immediately, and the contraband material was officially seized under standard police protocol.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against both accused persons. Samba Police registered an official case under FIR Number 135/2026 under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Vijaypur, and a formal investigation has been launched to trace the source and intended distribution channels of the seized drugs.

Reaffirming its commitment to completely eradicating the drug menace from the region, Samba Police emphasized that stringent measures against drug peddlers and smuggling networks will continue unabated. Law enforcement officials also appealed to the local public to extend full cooperation by reporting any suspicious or narcotics-related activities in their respective neighborhoods to assist in maintaining public safety.
