Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Reviews Flash Flood Damage in Rajouri, Assures Speedy Relief and Infrastructure Restoration
RAJOURI, AUGUST 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah undertook an extensive visit to the flood-affected areas of Rajouri district today to personally assess the destruction caused by the recent catastrophic flash floods. Reaffirming his administration’s unwavering pledge to the impacted population, he assured that all necessary resources and financial assistance would be mobilized to guarantee swift relief, comprehensive rehabilitation of displaced families, and urgent reconstruction of essential public infrastructure.
During his ground assessment, the Chief Minister personally visited the grieving family of Abdul Ghani—a Jal Shakti daily-wage worker who tragically lost his life after being swept away by surging waters while operating at a water supply pumping station in Kote Behrote, Thanamandi—offering heartfelt condolences and promising complete government backing. At the PWD Dak Bungalow, he also met with several other affected families, including the kin of Javed Iqbal from Kandi Budhal Block, Vikas Choudhary from Panchayat Bagla, Shahida Parveen of Bhatian village, and Pinky Singh from Sunderbani, expressing profound grief over their painful losses and reassuring them of priority relief.
To evaluate the physical toll on critical connectivity and civil infrastructure, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inspected the severely eroded Circular Road in Rajouri, where a 200-meter stretch was completely washed away during the July 19 deluge. He extended his inspection to the hard-hit residential locality of Aitey and the heavily damaged Bela Bus Stand, reviewing the extensive destruction inflicted upon public facilities, local transport nodes, and commercial establishments. Instructing concerned engineering and administrative departments to expedite restoration works without delay, he mandated the immediate implementation of protective engineering measures to shield vulnerable floodplains from potential future climate disasters.
Furthermore, he evaluated the compromised condition of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Rajouri, which had to be declared unsafe post-flooding, pledging swift remedial action to maintain uninterrupted governance in the district. Accompanying the Chief Minister throughout the review tour were regional representatives including MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed, MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary, MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma, SSP Rajouri Gaurav Sikarwar, and ADDC Rajouri Malikzada Sheraz-ul-Haq alongside senior civil and police executives.
