Jammu Police Crack Down on Theft Ring: Stolen Vehicles and Property Worth ₹25 Lakhs Recovered, 3 Arrested in Sainik Colony
JAMMU, July 06, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against property crime, the Jammu Police have successfully dismantled a notorious theft ring operating in the region. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals, including a local scrap dealer, and the recovery of stolen vehicles and electrical equipment valued at approximately ₹25 lakhs. The crackdown comes in the wake of two separate complaints filed at the Channi Himmat Police Station regarding a vehicle theft and a burglary at an electrical shop, both in the Sainik Colony area. In response, law enforcement authorities swiftly registered FIR No. 171/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside FIR No. 176/2026 under Section 303(2) BNS, launching an immediate, coordinated investigation.
To fast-track the resolution of these cases, a specialized investigation team was formed under the strategic guidance of the SP City South. Led by the In-Charge of the Sainik Colony Police Post and closely supervised by the Channi Himmat SHO and SDPO City East, the team deployed a mix of traditional field inquiries and modern forensics. By meticulously analyzing local CCTV footage and gathering technical evidence, investigators successfully identified and apprehended two habitual offenders, identified as Mohd. Ismail and Talib Hussain, both sons of Faqir Mohd and residents of Ragoora, Jammu. Following sustained interrogation, the duo confessed to their crimes, which subsequently led the police to arrest Keshar Singh, a Nagrota-based scrap dealer who allegedly acted as the receiver for the stolen goods.
The subsequent police raids yielded a massive haul of recovered property. Law enforcement seized a substantial cache of electrical items, including three inverters, eight batteries, a geyser, and eight bundles of industrial electrical wire. Furthermore, the operation led to the recovery of multiple stolen vehicles used or taken by the network, including two Maruti Eeco vans, a goods carrier auto, and a scooty, all previously reported missing from various sectors across the Jammu district. Alongside the stolen merchandise, officers confiscated a variety of burglary tools—such as industrial cutters, hammers, screwdrivers, and iron rods—which the suspects reportedly used to force entry into locked shops and vehicles. As the total value of the recovered assets touches ₹25 lakhs, the Jammu Police have stated that the investigation remains active to uncover further associates and dismantle the broader criminal network, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and proactive policing.
