Indian Army Corps of Signals motorcycle expedition reaches Kargil War Memorial to honor fallen soldiers

DRAS, Jul 7: The Indian Army Corps of Signals motorcycle expedition, titled Wheels of Valour: Sanchar Shakti, reached the iconic Kargil War Memorial at Dras after an inspiring eleven-day journey.

The 20-member team, comprising officers, junior commissioned officers, other ranks, and ladies of the Corps of Signals, traversed challenging terrain from the plains of North India to the rugged mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to honor the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.

Throughout the journey, the riders paid homage at several historic military memorials across the country, including Hussainiwala to honor Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, and Shaheed Rajguru, as well as the Palampur War Memorial to pay tribute to Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Saurabh Kalia, and Major Sudhir Walia.

The expedition also visited important Corps of Signals communication nodes to interact with serving signallers and appreciate their professionalism in ensuring secure military communications under demanding operational conditions.

A defining milestone of the journey was the Dare Devils’ world record attempt inside the Atal Tunnel at Rohtang, where 10 riders performed on two motorcycles to traverse the 9.02-kilometer tunnel in 9 minutes and 47.97 seconds, showcasing extraordinary precision and teamwork with support from the Himachal Pradesh administration and the Border Roads Organisation.

Throughout the route, the expedition engaged extensively with National Cadet Corps cadets, students, veterans, and local communities to inspire young Indians to embrace patriotism and pursue careers in the defense forces. Upon reaching the Dras memorial, the team paid solemn homage to the heroes of Operation Vijay before continuing their journey toward Leh, Rezang La, Nyoma, Debring, and Sarchu.
