Manoj Sinha orders strict action against travel agents for fake Shri Amarnath Yatra registrations

SRINAGAR, July 5, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Nunwan Base Camp on Sunday to review the ongoing management and security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

During his visit, he chaired a high-level meeting with senior administrative and security officials to discuss critical aspects of the pilgrimage, including the movement of devotees, security measures, accommodation, registration progress, and essential logistical requirements to ensure a seamless spiritual journey.

The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to prioritize the safety, security, and convenience of all pilgrims. He emphasized the need to educate devotees about the importance of possessing valid registration with designated dates to minimize waiting times. He instructed the ground teams to maintain close coordination, remain available on the spot, and ensure prompt redressal of any grievances raised by the yatris.

Interacting directly with the pilgrims at the base camp, Manoj Sinha assured them that the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and all associated government departments are working tirelessly to provide a safe and smooth experience. He urged officials to adopt a strictly pilgrim-centric approach. He specifically instructed that if a family arrives together but one member lacks a valid permit while the others are registered, the authorities should extend every possible assistance to facilitate the family’s pilgrimage together in accordance with prescribed procedures.

Expressing serious concern over reports of fraudulent activities, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted instances where certain travel agents facilitated fake registrations, leading to pilgrims arriving without proper verification. He ordered the police and relevant enforcement authorities to identify these unscrupulous agents and take strict legal action against anyone involved in such deceptive practices.

The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied during the review by a team of senior officers, including Principal Secretary and CEO of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board Mandeep K Bhandari, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi, IGP Traffic J&K M. Suleman Choudhary, and Commissioner Secretary of the Youth Services and Sports Department Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who is also the nodal officer for the Pahalgam axis. Other key officials present included Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, SSP Anantnag Amod Nagpure Ashok, and Director General of Rural Sanitation J&K Anoo Malhotra, alongside senior representatives from the shrine board, civil administration, police, and security forces.
