Amritsar Police bust cross border arms smuggling module and arrest eight suspects
AMRITSAR, June 18, 2026 — The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a major cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, leading to the arrest of eight individuals. During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered 11 sophisticated pistols along with eight live cartridges from the possession of the accused.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individuals were allegedly in direct contact with foreign-based operatives who manage the supply of illegal weapons into the region. The recovered firearms were reportedly intended for distribution among local criminal networks to be used in extortion, violent crimes, and various other unlawful activities.
Following the breakthrough, official cases have been registered at the Airport, Sadar, and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar. A comprehensive investigation is currently underway to map out the backward and forward linkages of the network, identify additional associates linked to the smuggling ring, and execute further recoveries and arrests.
The successful operation underscores the firm commitment of the Punjab Police to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms trafficking, cross-border smuggling networks, and organized crime syndicates operating within the state.
