IGP Jammu Zone Reviews Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 Security Arrangements in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, June 12, 2026 — In preparation for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra, Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Range Headquarters in Udhampur.

The high-level meeting aimed to assess the preparedness of all stakeholder agencies and finalize foolproof security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage. The session saw the participation of senior police, military, paramilitary, and civil administration officers, including Deputy Inspector General Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur Amritpal Singh, and Traffic SSP Ramban Raja Adil Hamid, along with representatives from the National Highways Authority of India and intelligence agencies.

During the meeting, the IGP reviewed the existing security infrastructure and directed all participating agencies to maintain the highest level of alertness while adopting a pilgrim-friendly approach. He emphasized strengthening the overall security grid through enhanced coordination, proactive preventive measures, and intelligence-led operations.

The SSP Udhampur was specifically instructed to conduct regular inspections of community kitchens, lodgement centres, transit camps, and other critical facilities to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and continuous surveillance.

Addressing highway safety, the representative from the National Highways Authority of India was directed to strategically position emergency machinery and restoration resources along vulnerable stretches of the national highway. This measure is intended to ensure swift clearance of road obstructions and rapid restoration of traffic in the event of landslides, accidents, or any unexpected exigencies.

The security strategy outlined for the pilgrimage routes includes round-the-clock domination, intensified checkpoint inspections, and increased area patrolling. Officers were also instructed to manage convoy movements effectively, expedite local tenant verification drives, and scale up CCTV surveillance with dedicated 24/7 monitoring teams at all crucial spots.

Reaffirming the importance of operational readiness, the IGP urged all agencies to work in close synergy to ensure a safe, secure, and successful Shri Amarnath Yatra.
