India Coast Guard Commissions New Fast Patrol Vessel Achal in Goa

Goa, May 9, 2026:- The Indian Coast Guard significantly enhanced its maritime capabilities today with the commissioning of the Indian Coast Guard Ship Achal at Goa Shipyard Limited.

The ceremony was led by A. Anbarasu, Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition) for the Department of Defence, in the presence of the Commander Coast Guard Region (North West) and other senior officials.

As a new-generation Adamya class Fast Patrol Vessel, the 51-meter ship is a product of indigenous engineering, featuring over 50 percent local content. This milestone reflects a major step forward for the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives within the defense sector.

Equipped with advanced weaponry and modern control systems, ICGS Achal is designed to handle a wide range of critical maritime operations. The vessel will be stationed at Vadinar, Gujarat, where it will be deployed for coastal surveillance, search and rescue missions, and anti-smuggling operations.

Additionally, the ship is prepared for pollution response tasks, ensuring a robust defense and environmental safeguard along India’s coastline.

The induction of this modern vessel is expected to further strengthen the nation’s maritime security framework and operational reach in the North West region.
