Assam Rifles Honors Operation Dudhi Heroes with Wreath Laying Ceremony in Kishtwar
KISHTWAR, May 6, 2026 — Assam Rifles organized a solemn wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday to commemorate the sacrifice of gallantry awardees from the historic Operation Dudhi.
The event, held in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, paid homage to the bravehearts of 7 Assam Rifles, including Kameshwar Prasad and Ram Kumar Arya, who laid down their lives in the line of duty on May 5, 1991.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the unit’s legacy of valor during its deployment in the Kupwara sector over three decades ago.Operation Dudhi remains a significant milestone in military history, recognized as an epitome of courage, sterling junior leadership, and tactical success.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of 72 militants and the apprehension of 13 others, marking it as one of the most successful counter-insurgency operations.
Security forces also recovered a massive cache of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores during the mission, significantly disrupting militant activities in the region at the time.
The commemoration highlighted the enduring spirit of the Assam Rifles in upholding the highest ideals of the armed forces. By honoring the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice, the personnel reaffirmed their commitment to the safety and security of the nation.
