NEW KEITHELMANBI, Feb 10, 2026 — In a vibrant display of community spirit and sportsmanship, the Assam Rifles officially inaugurated the Foothills Football Tournament 2026 at the New Keithelmanbi Football Ground in Manipur.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the local population, drawing over 730 spectators, including village elders, local club representatives, and enthusiastic schoolchildren. The tournament aims to strengthen the bond between the “Sentinels of the Northeast” and the local youth, promoting a culture of fitness and healthy competition in the region.
The ceremony was graced by the DIG, HQ Manipur Range, along with senior Assam Rifles officials. During his interaction with the participating teams, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship in both sports and life.
Following a ceremonial kickoff that officially declared the tournament open, the atmosphere turned electric as the opening match got underway. The inaugural game saw a dominant performance by Konglong FC Team A, who secured a decisive 5–1 victory over New Keithelmanbi Team A, after maintaining a slim 1–0 lead at halftime.
This initiative is part of the Assam Rifles’ broader “Community First” outreach program, designed to provide a platform for local talent to shine while fostering peace and unity across the foothills.
