JAMMU — February 09, 2026:-The Government of Jammu and Kashmir confirmed on Monday that the vital augmentation of the Water Supply Scheme (WSS) for Batote Town is currently in an advanced stage of execution within the Ramban Constituency.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, informed the House that the project is being implemented under the AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) framework. The initiative is designed to address the growing water demands of the town by upgrading existing distribution networks and ensuring sustainable access to potable water for all residents.
Providing a financial and physical progress report, the Minister stated that the project was allotted at a cost of ₹2.387 crore, with ₹1.85 crore already expended to date. In terms of on-ground development, the primary distribution system has been successfully laid, and the installation of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) is currently in progress.
The announcement came during a discussion sparked by a question from Legislator Arjun Singh Raju, while Legislator Sajjad Shaheen also raised supplementary concerns regarding broader regional water security. The government’s focus remains on completing the remaining household connections promptly to ensure that the benefits of the AMRUT 2.0 mission reach every doorstep in Batote Town.
