GANDERBAL | February 9, 2026:-In a landmark victory for child safety and judicial accountability, the Ganderbal District Police has successfully secured a 20-year prison sentence for an individual convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
This conviction serves as a powerful testament to the local law enforcement’s relentless pursuit of justice for victims of heinous crimes and highlights the efficiency of the region’s legal machinery.The convict, identified as Rouf Ahmad Ganaie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie and a resident of Takiya Khalmulla Nagbal, Ganderbal, was found guilty under Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act.
Presiding over the case, the Hon’ble Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, sentenced Ganaie to two decades of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000.The successful outcome of the trial is being attributed to the robust prosecution strategy and a meticulous investigation process.
The case was spearheaded by SI Mohammad Akbar, whose professional and diligent inquiry provided the foundational evidence necessary for conviction.
In the courtroom, the prosecution’s arguments were led by Shafat Ahmad Bhat (PP), while Jehangir Rafiqi (PP) delivered the final arguments that ultimately secured the judgment.
