Guru Ravidass 650th Birth Anniversary: Sat Sharma Receives BRHF Proposal for National Commemoration
JAMMU, January 14, 2026 — Jammu Kashmir BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma today received a formal representation from the British Ravidassia Heritage Foundation (BRHF) seeking the official national commemoration of the 650th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidass in February 2027.
The letter, addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was presented by Balbir Ram Rattan, National General Secretary of the BRHF’s Indian branch, in the presence of senior BJP leaders including Ashok Koul and Dr. Pardeep Mohtra. The foundation, a UK-based global socio-spiritual organization, has proposed the formation of a national committee, “Guru Ravidass Aradh Janam Shatabdi Samaroh,” to coordinate year-long celebrations across India and abroad to promote the Guru’s timeless message of equality and social justice.
The BRHF proposal includes several significant requests aimed at preserving the spiritual legacy of Guru Ravidass. Key demands include renaming the Tughlaqabad area to “Begampura”—reflecting the Guru’s vision of a casteless society—and transforming Jahanpanah Park into “Guru Ravidass Vatika.”
Additionally, the foundation urged the government to fulfill a 2024 campaign promise to rename Adampur Airport in Punjab after the saint and suggested the establishment of a “Guru Ravidass Central University” to serve as a hub for inclusive education.
Upon receiving the letter, Sat Sharma praised the initiative, noting that the Guru’s teachings align with the current government’s vision of unity, and assured the delegation that the representation would be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office for swift consideration.
