UPDATE :-Massive Fire Destroys 20 Houses in Kishtwar’s Dachhan; Multiple Families Rendered Homeless

KISHTWAR, Jan 2, 2026 — A devastating fire swept through Tachna village in the Dachhan area of Kishtwar late Thursday night, destroying at least 20 residential houses and leaving dozens of families without shelter.

The blaze, which erupted during the evening hours, spread with alarming speed across the densely packed neighborhood.

Officials noted that the predominance of traditional wooden structures allowed the flames to leap from building to building, while the region’s rugged terrain and poor road connectivity severely hampered the arrival of emergency fire tenders.

Despite the logistical hurdles, a grueling rescue operation involving both officials and local volunteers lasted several hours. While the fire was eventually contained, the aftermath revealed significant loss; in addition to the residential destruction, several livestock were killed in the inferno.

Medical reports confirm that four individuals sustained burn injuries during the chaos; they are currently receiving treatment at a nearby health facility and are reported to be in stable condition.

The administrative assessment of the damage is ongoing, but preliminary reports list nearly twenty homeowners who have lost everything, including Firdous Mir, Ismail Mir, Alfa Mir, Ghulam Mohammad Mir, Bashir Ahmed, and several others.

The community impact is further deepened by the total destruction of a rented Anganwadi centre that served the village children.

Local authorities are now facing calls to provide immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for the displaced residents of Tachna.
