Jammu and Kashmir weather update forecasts upcoming rain and hailstorm with advisory issued for tourists

SRINAGAR, June 2, 2026 :- The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather update and advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a shift from dry conditions to widespread rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.

On June 2, the region is expected to remain generally dry, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers at scattered places towards the late afternoon, alongside isolated hailstorms. The weather will turn generally cloudy on June 3, bringing a spell of rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour to many places.

The intensity is likely to increase on June 4 and 5, with most places expected to experience one or two spells of rain, thundershowers, hailstorms, and gusty winds. Conditions will begin to clear on June 6 with brief showers at a few places under generally cloudy skies, followed by a return to hot and dry weather from June 7 to 10.

In light of the forecast, the weather department has issued a safety advisory warning of potential thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 60 kilometers per hour, at scattered locations between June 3 and 6.

Residents and travelers are strongly advised to stay indoors during periods of thunderstorms, lightning, and high winds. Additionally, authorities have instructed operators to temporarily suspend all boating and shikara riding activities across regional water bodies to ensure public safety.
