Full scale emergency mock exercise conducted at Shillong Airport to test safety protocols

SHILLONG, May 10, 2026:- Shillong Airport successfully conducted a full-scale emergency mock exercise today to evaluate and enhance the readiness of its safety and rescue teams.

The drill simulated a high-pressure scenario involving a crash landing followed by a significant fire incident. This simulation allowed authorities to test the real-time effectiveness of emergency response procedures and the seamless coordination required during a major aviation crisis.

The comprehensive exercise saw active participation from multiple organizations, including the Central Industrial Security Force, Airport Authority of India Fire Services, and the State Fire Service. Support was also provided by various airlines, dedicated medical teams, and representatives from Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Police and other relevant agencies joined the effort to validate the inter-agency response mechanisms and ensure every department understands its role in a life-saving mission.

These regular drills are critical for strengthening the overall preparedness and coordination among various stakeholders at the airport. By identifying potential bottlenecks in communication and response times in a controlled environment, the participating agencies can refine their strategies.

The successful completion of the exercise reaffirms the airport’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and its ability to handle emergency situations with professional precision.
